Sashiko Rice Bag
In this class you will be making a traditional, box shaped drawstring pouch.
You will be using techniques that you learned in the beginners Sashiko class.
But you will also be learning how to stitch a beautiful traditional Sashiko star pattern called Asanoha.
Students taking this class must have taken the beginner Sashiko class.
Just a note that there will be stitching homework in this class.
Supply list
.25 meter of a solid coloured cotton fabric cut into 5 x 8 inch squares
.25 meter of fabric for lining
Small scrapes of cotton , linen, and woven fabric to be used on 2 of the side panels(prints and colours are your choice).
A piece of fabric 6” wide x 13” long
Two pieces of fabric cut 2” x WOF .This is for the drawstrings. If you prefer to use cording, you will need 2 meters.
.25 meter of Sf 101 featherweight fusible interfacing.
.25 meter of fusible fleece
Sashiko needle
Off white or white sashiko thread for stitching the Asanoha star pattern
Also a few other colours of Sashiko thread, valdani and or perle cotton thread
(size 5,8,and 12)that will compliment the patchwork side of the bag.
Ball point pen
Regular pencil (not mechanical)
Fabric marking pen
Small cutting mat and rotary cutter
A small ruler for drawing pattern lines( 12” long works well)
Scissors
Pins and quilt clips
Sewing machine in good working order
For the first class you will need to bring your 5 x 8” squares , Sf 101 fusible interfacing, pen and pencil, ruler, Sashiko needle , Sashiko threads, scissors, rotary cutter and cutting mat.
